Top Tips - for caring for your football boots

Check list for buying Football Boots:

1. Are the football boots comfortable?
2. Do the boots fit well, especially in the width?
3. Are the boots flexible in all directions, including the sole, i.e. the bottom of the boot?

There are two types of football studs, namely moulded and screw-in. The screw-in type have the advantage that the studs can be changed according to the type of ground you are playing on. So you can take one pair of football boots to the game, and change the studs if necessary. If your feet are suffering on hard pitches with blisters, there are several things to try. Use studs which are designed for hard pitches. Use football boots which have a larger number of studs, so that the pressure is more evenly distributed on your foot, or use a padded instep in your boots. Always wear boots. Training shoes or sneakers are likely to slip when you turn on grass. Astro-boots, which have large numbers of pimples on the sole are not suitable either. They are specially designed for Astroturf, but not for use on grass.

Early Days - Der Boots

Helmut Rahn

He is the German captain known as Der Boss (The Boss) who came through adversity to lead the team in 1954 World Cup in Switzerland which they won against an unbeaten Hungary team lead by Ferenc Puskas. He became a legend and a German football hero in the final of the 1954 World Cup. He scored the equalizer and the winning goals in the Miracle of Bern match which the Germans won 3-2. 50 years after the Bern match, a lifesize statue of him was put up near Georg-Melches-Stadium in Essen, on the square named after him.

Early Days - The Fontaine's Boots

Just Fontaine

He holds the title as the highest goal scorer in a World Cup. His record was massive, 13 goals in 6 matches during the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. 4 of his goals came during a game against West Germany. I wonder his boots might have torn in many part of the leather since he is that deadly in front of the goal.

Early Days - Player Spotting White Coloured Boots

The question is who was the first to wear the colourway that would subsequently change the fashion in football boots?

In the 1996 FA Cup Final between Manchester United and Liverpool, John Barnes was wearing white boots of a brand that I did not recognize. In that game Cantona scored a volley in the 85th minute that seal his comeback in that very season. During the prematch ceremony, the Liverpool lads turn up at the old Wembley in White designer suits so shocking that back then the press called them as the "Spice Boys". Before that match also, John Barnes's 'Anfield Rap' shot to #3 in the U.K. music chart. Salute!

During the 2000 European Championships in Holland and Belgium, Alfonso of Spain was spotted as the only players who wore the infamous white boots. The crafty and incisive centre-forward who had played often for Spain, been cast aside by Real Madrid, and flourished with Betis Seville. In the game against Yugoslavia he scored 2 goals in what would have been the match of the tournament when Spain emerge the winner in a 4-3 thriller. He scored the decisive winner. Among the 22 players i think it is easier to spot Alfonso in the middle of the field with his white boots.

Back in the old days elite football players wore very different boots than they do today. Made from strong thick cowhide leather and weighing 600 grams, the boot featured a leather sole that has been nailed to the upper. It was designed to be ankle length for player protection. The nailed on studs or cleats it features were an invention first used by Adi Dassler on shoes for the German National Team. A lot of effort were being done and the design of football boots has definately elvolved since the first cleated shoes.
